1. Fort Needham Memorial Park
Located in the North End of Halifax, this park is practically in the core of the city. You would never know it, though; it feels a world away! Situated on a glacial drumlin, this park is high enough to give you a great view of the harbour, including the exact spot of the Halifax Explosion! In fact, the park is home to the Halifax Explosion Memorial Bell Tower. Here, you and your dog can soak up fascinating local history and exercise at the same time.
Off-leash area? Yes!
2. Hemlock Ravine Park
Be sure to admire the heart-shaped “Julie’s Pond” en route to Hemlock Ravine Park. When you arrive, you’ll see wide tree-lined paths through this 200-acre park off the Bedford Highway. You’ll also find lots of wildlife for you and your dog to observe (from a safe distance, of course)!

3. Point Pleasant Park
You can’t talk about parks in Halifax without mentioning this landmark. The sprawling park boarders the harbour and contains intersecting trails, a beach and tons of greenery. This is probably one of the busiest parks in the city, so it’s an excellent spot for you and your pup to make new friends!

4. Shubie Park
The hallmark of this park is the canal that runs between each trail. Heavily forested, this is a quiet and peaceful place to explore in the heart of Dartmouth.

5. Sandy Lake Park
This is a small park off Hammonds Plains Road. Word on the street is that nesting loons live here and the water quality is very good (just ask the Sandy Lake Conservation Association)!

6. Long Lake Provincial Park
If you love to explore, this is a giant, heavily forested park is the place to do it! Your dog will love the countless plants and creatures to smell, and you will love the solitude and natural scenery.
Off-leash area? No. Although this park is quiet and not officially maintained, by law dogs must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet in all provincial parks.
