Here are some of the best places to set up camp, and all are just a short distance from the city!
Located right next to Dartmouth’s Shubie Park, it’s impossible to camp closer to everything that Halifax has to offer!
Swim in Lake Charles, explore the historic Shubenacadie Canal System, hike the Shubie Park trails – it’s all here. If the weather decides to not cooperate and rains on your parade don’t worry, you can always head across the road and see a movie at Dartmouth Crossing!
2 – Halifax West KOA
Just 30 minutes from the downtown core in Upper Sackville, the Halifax West KOA accommodates both RVs and tenters.
With fishing, a swimming pool, bike rentals and many onsite activities, there’s something for everyone – including the kids in your life.
Porter’s Lake Provincial Park is the perfect slice of wilderness just minutes from Dartmouth. With over 70 sites available, it’s an ideal spot to start your canoeing, fishing or kayaking adventure.
Porter’s Lake Provincial Park is a great destination for hikers as well, given it’s close proximity to the Crowbar Lakes system of trails. The Crowbar Lakes trails offer four loops of varying difficulty – learn more about them here.
Situated on a large lake less than 30 km from Musquodoboit Harbour, Dollar Lake Provincial Park is another destination perfect for a quick weekend getaway.
There’s a lot to do at the park including back-country hiking and canoeing, and you won’t want to miss the beautiful sandy beach at the North end of the lake. It’s the perfect location to spend a Saturday afternoon before heading back to your campsite.
