Top 5 Ways to Cool Off in Halifax This Summer

Looking for a fun way to cool down? We have the list for you and your family – from kayaking and boating – to swimming and splashing the day away!

Here are 5 fun ways to cool down this summer:

1 – Splash Pads

There are five splash pads in the Halifax region for kids of all ages to enjoy. The newest splash park just opened in Sackville. Splashpads feature waterspouts, buckets of water and megaphones (the Sackville splash pad even has a water piano)!

Bonus: splash pads usually have playgrounds, picnic tables and shade nearby, so there’s something for everyone.

2 – Outdoor Pools

There are four outdoor pools in the Halifax region, including ones in Bedford, Halifax, St. Margaret’s Bay and Cole Harbour.

  • The Margaret’s Bay Pool is heated and available to rent for birthday parties.
  • The Cole Harbour Pool has synchronized swimming and diving lessons, as well as a swim team and water polo.
  • The Bedford Pool is comprised of two heated pools – side by side – overlooking the Bedford Basin.

3 – Lakes

Halifax is full of lakes, many with lifeguard supervision between 11am and 5pm. Many lakes border scenic walking trails, so it’s easy to make for a full day outing!

Check halifax.ca to see if your chosen lake is open or closed for swimming, since some lakes will be closed when bacteria levels are high.

4 – Water Slides

Atlantic Splash Adventure in Hammonds Plains has added SIX new water slides to their park this summer bringing their total water slide count to 8!

In addition to the water slides, you can also take a swing at their batting cages, or enjoy a round of mini-golf.

5 – Boating

You can borrow canoes at Mary’s Boat Club or rent kayaks, canoes and life jackets from Mountain Equipment Co-Op on Granville Street.

You can also take a boat tour on a tall ship or the Harbour Hopper! A cool ocean breeze is a wonderful way to revitalize you on a summer day.
