10 Things to Do in Halifax This April

X

April in Halifax means longer days, a bit more sun, and finally getting back outside. It’s one of the best times of year for free outdoor activities in Halifax. From food festivals and live shows to family outings and nights out downtown, there’s plenty going on this month. Here are 10 things to do in Halifax in April 2026.

1. Eat your weight in burgers during Halifax Burger Bash

One of Halifax’s most iconic food festivals is back.

From April 16–26, dig into burgers from more than 140 restaurants across Halifax. Pick up a Burger Bash passport at a participating restaurant, visit at least three locations, and get it stamped for a chance to win $1000 in Garrison Brewing Co. gift cards.

2. Welcome the return of spring in Halifax

After a long winter, Halifax starts to bloom again in April. The waterfront gets busier, and parks and trails invite you to stretch your legs after months indoors.

Take a stroll along the Halifax Waterfront, wander through the Halifax Public Gardens as flowers begin to blossom, or take a bike ride on the St. Margaret’s Bay Trail. Whether you’re grabbing a coffee for a walk or catching the sunset at Point Pleasant Park, April is a great time to rediscover the outdoors.

6. Learn about Halifax’s Titanic Connection

April 15 marks 114 years since the Titanic sank in the North Atlantic, claiming more than 1,500 lives. As the nearest major seaport, Halifax became the centre of recovery operations and the primary destination for many of the victims who were recovered.

Discover artifacts from the Titanic at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. The wreckwood collection is so historically significant that researchers for the film Titanic (1997), including James Cameron, visited the museum in preparation for filming.

To dive deeper into the history, take a tour of the cemeteries where Titanic victims are buried.

7. Flip through the Funny Pages

Not every kid loves to read, but every kid loves to laugh. That’s the idea behind Funny Pages, Canada’s only festival dedicated to books that bring the giggles. Designed to get kids laughing and loving literature, this unique event uses humour to help young readers discover the joy of books—and maybe even inspire a few future writers along the way.
