About This Experience

Relax and restore with a chilled-out Downtown Dartmouth Daycation, perfect for a morning with family, reconnecting with friends, or a little solo serenity in this funky urban community.

The Plan

  • Take the Alderney Ferry to Downtown Dartmouth
  • Brunch at The Canteen on Portland Street
  • Stroll through Downtown Dartmouth to Sullivan’s Pond to sit and relax in the park
  • Explore the shops of Downtown Dartmouth on your way back to the Ferry

Take the Alderney Ferry to Downtown Dartmouth

If the weather is nice, sit on the top deck and enjoy panoramic harbour views with the fresh sea breeze.

Brunch at The Canteen on Portland Street

Walk up Portland Street and head to the Canteen for brunch.

Stroll through Downtown Dartmouth to Sullivan’s Pond to sit and relax in the park

After brunch, make your way through Downtown Dartmouth to Sullivan’s Pond. Lay back in the grass surrounding the Pond and let yourself relax and enjoy this local-favourite park. You might stumble onto a concert at the pavilion or see the Sullivan’s Pond geese waddling around the park.

To get to Sullivan’s Pond from the Canteen, walk up Portland Street, take a left on King Street, then turn right onto Ochterloney Street. Walk until you arrive at Sullivan’s Pond.

distance: 1 km
difficulty: easy
time: 15 mins

Explore the shops of Downtown Dartmouth on your way back to the Ferry

As you head back through Downtown Dartmouth to catch the Alderney Ferry back to Halifax, enjoy wandering through the cool shops and funky boutiques that make this one of the region’s coolest neighbourhoods.

Be sure to stop in for a crepe at Portland Street Creperie on your way back to Alderney Landing.

→ Turn it into a staycation

Make it a staycation and stay overnight at the DoubleTree by Hilton Halifax Dartmouth for some truly breathtaking views of the harbour and the Halifax skyline at night.
