Finding the person you want to spend the rest of your life with might be long and bumpy journey, but choosing where to hold your wedding shouldn’t be. While it might seem trivial to place the two on the same level, after picking your partner, the next two things to come up are ‘what’s your date?’ and ‘where are you getting married?’
If you’re thinking about hosting your big day in Halifax, you’re in luck – the area has a venue that will suit your tastes and needs. So take a deep breath, sit back with your partner and check out these 5 suggestions:
1 – St. Mary’s Boat Club
At face value, St. Mary’s Boat Club is a simple building. But when you take into account the large windows overlooking the Northwest Arm, the blank slate that allows you to incorporate your own decorations and the proximity to downtown hotels, it’s worth more than just a passing glance.
If you’re looking for a true DIY experience, including choosing your caterer, providing your own bar (provided you apply for a liquor license through the province, which is not difficult) and choosing all of your own décor, I can’t recommend the boat club enough.
2 – Hatfield Farm
Looking for a rustic location for your wedding, but hoping to remain close to the downtown? Hatfield Farm should be on your list.
Located in Hammonds Plains, Hatfield Farm has everything from an outside ceremony site to a mechanical bull. They’re used to facilitating everything from corporate outings, to weddings and children’s birthday parties, so they’re more than prepared to help you out.
If you’re in search of a unique location that really celebrates Halifax, then don’t forget the Halifax Seaport Farmers Market. With windows that face towards the Halifax harbour and historic George’s Island, as well as the option to get married on the beautiful rooftop patio, the Market is the perfect location for a couple who wants to celebrate the city in a modern setting.
Other selling points for the market include ample parking, opportunity to bring in your own catering, and a cool industrial feel that lends itself to many colour palates and design ideas. The perfect location for couples who love to be in the heart of the support local movement.
Located less than an hour outside of the city, White Point Beach Resort can facilitate the seaside wedding of your dreams. Giving options for everything from bachelor and bachelorette parties, to rehearsal dinners and the big day itself, White Point provides you with meal and location choices (rooms ranging in size from 20 guests to 200), and should your guests wish to stay the night – rooms on site.
This popular venue books quickly (at least a year out for weekends in the summer), so if you’re hoping for a key date, make your reservations early.
For most people, your wedding is the biggest event you’ll ever organize. You’ve tasked yourself and your future spouse with creating a day that unites not only two people, but also their families and friends over at least a ceremony, and quite possibly a meal and reception. That’s why it’s nice to work with a team of experts.
While having a beautiful interior that lends itself perfectly to a more formal wedding, the Lord Nelson Hotel comes equipped with an event team that will alleviate stress and help you plan the day of your dreams.
This is just a small sampling of all the places to hold a wedding in the Halifax area. But, when it comes to planning your day, don’t limit yourself to traditional settings.
Many restaurants around the city, especially those that have special significance to you and your partner, are often more than happy to serve as a venue. If you’ve got your heart set on a location that doesn’t seem like a typical wedding space, go in and inquire with the management – you might be surprised!
