Can’t say enough great things about McKelvie’s… Almost cancelled our hotel for the next night to stay in town and enjoy a second meal here… it was that good.
DEFINITELY will be back when we next visit Halifax.”

We found this pub by accident just round the corner from our hotel. It has excellent food – the English stuff was better than pubs in England! The staff were friendly and my husband was delighted that the real ale wasn’t icy cold! it was delightful sitting on their patio in the evening sun!”

Superb locally sourced food and excellent service… One of the owners came to talk to us and asked where we were travelling to (Lunenberg) and provided us with introductions to his favourite eating places there. We left feeling like royalty. Very nice indeed.”

6 – The Bicycle Thief
1475 Lower Water Street – Downtown Halifax
My husband and I stayed in Halifax last night while waiting out a storm. Our power went out in the hotel and we ventured out for a place to eat – The Bicycle Thief was was still open and we had heard good things about it, so we ate there…
The waitstaff were top notch, very friendly and welcoming with recommendations. Our drinks were always topped up, plates taken away as soon as we finished, and we surprisingly didn’t have to wait long for our meals to arrive…
Our meal was fantastic!! Every bite was fresh and packed full of flavour, I could find no faults if I tried… Simply fantastic meal!! Looking forward to our next meal.”

The ambiance is a perfect balance of casual meets classy, with great live music, and being super chill. The food was so good-try the truffle fries! But, hands down what makes this place is the staff. The bartenders were so knowledgeable about the craft beer scene and what to recommend-even for someone that isn’t typically a beer drinker.
Spencer, Joe, and Kevin you guys took care of us and made our experience not only to The Auction House fantastic, but also our trip to Nova Scotia one of a kind and memorable. They provide great service, great conversation, and lots of laughs.
Do yourself a favour, GO and ask if any of those guys are working-you won’t be disappointed.”

This place was recommended to us by former Halifax [residents] in our home town. WOW great food and service.
For an appy order from their bar menu the Crab Cakes……..to die for. For desert, My wife is not a Cheese cake fan but we split the salted caramel cheese cake and she said it was the best she has ever eaten, I love cheese cake and I could have licked the plate….. but my mother told me that was gosh when I was a kid so I asked for a spatula!
Do you deliver to say CALGARY?“

Our dinners were delicious gourmet, modern, and innovative. The wine list, while not overly extensive, is far from ordinary. Save room for dessert. You will be glad you did.
So good we had to eat here again during our trip to Halifax.“

2 – EDNA
2053 Gottingen Street – North End Halifax
On our first ever visit to Halifax, we came to Edna based on a recommendation from our Airbnb host. How lucky we were to be staying just a block away from this terrific restaurant! We sat at the bar and our bartender, Katherine, gave us wonderful service, along with suggestions for our time in Halifax and points east in Nova Scotia.
We just retired after 11 years of creating and operating a very successful restaurant, so we know the work and dedication that goes into an operation like this.
Hands down Edna is one of our favorite restaurants ever!!!“

8 Oland Crescent – Bayer’s Lake, Halifax
As a restaurateur, it is always a great pleasure to find these hidden gems in our city. The food was affordable, excellent and bountiful. However, none of this compared to the level of service, provided by Jamie. She is an exquisite example and representative of the brand and the restaurant as a whole.
Bravo…thank you for your attentiveness and thank you for your service.”
