Top 10 Pizza Places in Halifax

Craving pizza in Halifax? Good news – this city has PLENTY of mouth-watering pizzerias to choose from, no matter your pizza-preferences.

Whether you’re into gourmet pies, locally-sourced toppings or the gooey, cheesy fast food variety (no shame!), there’s no shortage of pizzerias to enjoy in Halifax.

Here are 10 of Halifax’s most MOUTH-WATERING PIZZAS:

1 – Piatto Pizzeria + Enoteca

5114 Morris Street, Halifax + 620 Nine Mile Drive, Unit 1-9
Bedford, NS

I went with my favourite pizza on the menu at Piatto: the Stephanie, which is made with soft goat cheese, crispy prosciutto, caramelized pears, Grana Padano, and features a drizzle of balsamic reduction. The standards at Piatto are very high – it’s the only pizzeria with VPN certification, meaning their pizzas are made the Neapolitan way.

2 – Morris East

5212 Morris Street, Downtown Halifax/South End

I had the Blue pizza here: blue cheese, mozzarella, prosciutto, and arugula. Absolutely fantastic, but what else do you expect from a hip pizzeria that’s been featured on the Food Network’s You Gotta Eat Here?

3 – Salvatore’s Pizzaiolo Trattoria

5541 Young Street, North End

Also nestled in the Hydrostone district is staple pizza place Salvatore’s. Go here for delicious Italian pizzas. I tried a white pizza here (no tomato sauce) called the Miguel (Spanish onions, fresh mushrooms, Romano, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese with sweet basil and roasted garlic), and it was the best pizza I tried during the entire quest.

4 – Bramoso Gourmet Pizzeria

6169 Quinpool Road, Quinpool Road area

I’m a fan of spicy foods, so when I saw the Southern Belle gourmet pizza on Bramoso’s menu, I immediately ordered it. This pizza featured roasted chicken covered in Frank’s hot sauce, smoked bacon, red onions, celery, and smothered in asiago, Parmesan, and Gorgonzola cheeses. So good – you should definitely try it if you’re in the Quinpool District.

5 – Freeman’s Little New York

1726 Grafton Street + 6092 Quinpool Road

Freeman’s Little New York is one of my favourite places in Halifax. I definitely recommend the House Speciality: Italian sausage, feta, tomato, green peppers and red onion. Freeman’s has been making delicious food for 60 years.

6 – Stone Pizza

79 Alderney Dr, Dartmouth

Stone Pizza in downtown Dartmouth is ALL about the choices. Created right in front of you and cooked on a traditional pizza stone, you can literally watch the deliciousness as it’s created.

7 – Alexandra’s Pizza

1263 Queen Street, South End

Monterey Jack, mozzarella, ground beef and red onions combine to make the delicious Chicago Jack pizza. Gooey and perfectly prepared, make sure you try Alexandra’s.

8 – Yeah Yeahs Pizza

66 Ochterloney St, Dartmouth

The crust is AMAZING. Seriously, they must have some sort of secret ingredient (unicorn tears?) because people just can’t get enough of Yeah Yeahs pizza crust.

They have a small menu and stick to the classics and boy, do they do them well!

9 – Rinaldo’s Italian American Specialties

2186 Windsor Street, North End

A traditional family-owned Italian-American restaurant, Rinaldo’s uses locally-sourced ingredients from scratch. Not only do they create delicious pizzas, but pastas and sandwiches too – “Just like the family used to make.”

10 – Mother’s Pizza

5710 Young Street, North End

A new, hip venture in the Hydrostone district, Mother’s has delicious pizzas on the menu with plenty of options. I went with the Spiced Pork Shoulder Pizza (pork shoulder, caramelized onions, and mozzarella cheese) and my friend sampled the Salami, Feta, Onion pie. Both were delicious.
