We’re very lucky in Halifax to have winters with plenty of snow and a great variety ofhills to slide on!
We've compiled a list of some of the region's best tobogganing hills so that all you have to do is grab your sleds, crazy carpets, and tubes, and go have fun on one of Halifax’s many hills!
1. Citadel Hill
One of the most famous spots to go sledding in Halifax is Citadel Hill, located right in the center of the city.
There are different levels of steepness around the hill but the runs all end near roads so you do have to be cautious. The Wanderer's Grounds side has a steep hill and long landing area, but don't go too close to Citadel High School; that side of the hill has some sizable rocks and roots which could cause an accident.
There are also plenty of excellent cafés within walking distance if you need a warm beverage after your chilly adventure!
2.Merv Sullivan Park
North End Halifax
Located in the North End of Halifax, this extremely steep hill - commonly known as “The Pit” - is fast but smooth. If you’re looking for a more adventurous slide, this is the place to go - but don’t forget to bring a helmet!
3. Ashburn Golf Course
West End Halifax
Located in the West End of Halifax, the Ashburn Golf Course is a local favourite. It’s a safe bet if you’re looking for a family-friendly, smaller hill to start on.
Since it’s not the most popular hill in Halifax it might also be a little less crowded than say, Citadel Hill!
4. Oakfield Provincial Park
Not many people in the region know about the excellent hill at Oakfield Park, just past Fall River on Highway 2.
Known more as a swimming beach in the summer, the hill has a nice long grassy bottom for slowing down. It’s a full-day adventure as you have to park at the gate and walk into the hill.
South End - Downtown Halifax
Families love this hill because of the varying levels of steepness, long landing area, and convenience! Gorsebrook is located in the South End of Halifax on the corner of Robie and Inglis Streets.
There is plenty of parking and enough room for kids of all ages!
