Looking for something fun to do with kids? Halifax is home to some unique, top-notch playgrounds!

From waterfront submarines to natural play structures, to playgrounds complete with softly cushioned floors, this list of 10 kid-approved playgrounds and parks in and around Halifax has something for everyone!

1. Dingle Playground at Sir Sandford Fleming Park

Sir Sandford Fleming Park - 260 Dingle Rd, Halifax

The Dingle Playground features log structures of all kinds and has zones for both senior and junior play (2-5 years old).

The senior play area includes a log tower with a slide and a type of log/fiber mash walking zone. The junior play area features a “fallen log climber and adjacent log steppers” as well as a wide slide!

2. DeWolf Park Playground on the Bedford Waterfront

DeWolf Park - 150 Waterfront Dr, Bedford

Dewolf Park is located on the Bedford Waterfront, offering beautiful views of the Bedford Basin. You can often see seals, ducks and over wildlife here. The playground itself is also a great feature of the park. Re-designed and built just a few years ago, it has a cushioned ground making your kid(s) safe from falls and scrapes. It features many slides, nearby benches and a spinning carousal.

3. Westmount Inclusive Playground Park

6700 Edward Arab Ave, Halifax

Westmount Playground in Halifax’s West End is located close to the Halifax Shopping Centre. The playground features a fantastic large field and play space with a splash pad, ramps, a foam floor, slides, monkey bars, and swings for infants and older children. It also has accessible features for strollers and wheelchairs. It’s fantastic for toddlers and kids of all ages!

4. Musquodoboit Wooden Playground

Come and play on Nova Scotia’s largest wooden playground!

These giant old-school castle-like structures are begging to be climbed and played on. Kids and adults alike will enjoy the impressive wooden tower, wavy slides and themed sections for imaginative play.



5. Grand Lake Oakfield Playground

5466 Nova Scotia Trunk 2, Airport Area Region

With a large basketball court, baseball diamond, two playgrounds and lots of picnic tables, it’s a great place to spend an afternoon with the entire family. The playground itself has two playgrounds, one for little toddlers and one for larger kids. The playground for older kids has numerous slides, monkey bars, and fun climbing features!

6. Halifax Common Playground

5824 Cogswell St, Downtown Halifax

With so much more than just a playground – the large public area is home to a splash pad, tennis courts, a skate park, outdoor swimming pool, skating rink, and more! This space actually houses swings and two side-by-side matching playgrounds, one smaller one for toddlers and a larger area for older kids. The larger playground features slides, monkey bars, a climbing structure, and more.



7. Submarine Playground on the Halifax Waterfront

1655 Lower Water St, Downtown Halifax Region

Arguably the most visually cool and fun playground in the Halifax Region is the Submarine playground on the Halifax Waterfront. The interactive playground is bright orange and actually resembles a submarine, and features a rope climbing net, slide, and two levels of fun! It also has padded floors, is wheelchair accessible, and has a fun two-dimensional octopus wall behind the playground structure.

8. Ferry Terminal Park Playground

88 Alderney Dr, Downtown Dartmouth

Right on the Downtown Dartmouth waterfront, this is a unique and fun playground with beautiful views of the Downtown Halifax cityscape. This neon green and grey playground features many climbing apparatuses and lots of slides for toddlers and older kids alike. It also has a foam floor, a mesh-rope climbing tool, and plenty of benches.

9. Isleville Playground

3460 Isleville St, North End Halifax

This fully fenced in playground in the North End is stocked
with fun things to do and a mighty playground! On top of the playground itself,
the area houses a splashpad, sand box, two sets of swings and plenty of places
to sit. The actual playground has tubes to climb through, tubed slides,
interactive x and o games, stairs to climb and more!



10. Fort Needham Memorial Park Playground

5515 Stairs Pl, North End Halifax

This predominantly wooden playground uses 90% natural materials and was designed to promote positive cognition and motor skills in kids! This structure features large, hollow, wooden pentagon-shaped boxes, a wooden cannon, metal slide and more.
