Thinking Ceramic is a cozy pottery and coffee studio on Spring Garden Road in Downtown Halifax. Walk in, choose between pottery painting and beginner-friendly clay handbuilding, and create at your own pace. No experience is needed, and all supplies are provided

What to Do Here

For pottery painting, start by choosing an unpainted ceramic piece from the studio’s selection of mugs, plates, planters, vases, figurines, and more.

Find a spot at one of the shared tables or settle into a window seat for a quieter experience. The team will explain the process, show you where to find the paints and tools, and share tips to help you get started. They’ll also be available to answer questions along the way. Paint and glaze your piece, then leave it with the studio for kiln firing. It will typically be ready for pickup within one to two weeks.

You can also try clay handbuilding, which lets you shape a piece from raw clay rather than starting with a pre-shaped ceramic piece. Paint your creation during the same visit, and the studio will handle the glazing and firing. The process takes approximately three to four weeks.

Prefer to create at home? Choose a ceramic piece and purchase a take-home painting kit. Return your painted piece for glazing and firing, then pick it up in about two weeks. The kit is fully refundable upon return.
