Remembrance Day in Halifax

Remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, and honour those who served and continue to serve today by attending a Remembrance Day service.

Here is a list of Remembrance Day 2019 ceremonies, events and services happening throughout the Halifax Region:

No Stone Left Alone Commemorative Ceremony

When: Friday, November 8, 2019 | 10:45 am – 11:30 am

Where: Fort Massey Cemetery – 1246 Queen Street, Halifax (directions)

NSLA’s mission is to honour the sacrifice and service of Canada’s military by educating students and placing poppies on the headstones of Veterans every November.  This year 220 students will lay poppies on 1200 headstones at the Fort Massey Cemetery.

Throughout Canada, with the help of students, soldiers, volunteers, and the communities around us we will place over 50,000 poppies to commemorate the lives and sacrifices of our brave Military.

St. Agnes Remembrance Ceremony for Second World War Veterans

When: Monday, November 11, 2019 | 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

Where: St. Agnes Roman Catholic Parish Church – 6903 Mumford Road, Halifax (directions)

St. Agnes Remembrance Ceremony for Second World War veterans is an annual event held at the St. Agnes Roman Catholic Parish Church and it is the Church’s 50th anniversary of hosting this ceremony this year.

Remembrance Day Commemorations at Halifax Citadel National Historic Site

When: Monday, November 11, 2019 | 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Where: Halifax Citadel National Historic Site – 5425 Sackville Street, Halifax (directions)

Starting at 11:00 a.m., the 1st Field Artillery Regiment will fire a 21-gun salute at the front entrance followed by the firing of the noon gun.

The Halifax Citadel and Army Museum will be open to visitors free of charge from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Annual Remembrance Day Service in Grand Parade

When: Monday, November 11, 2019 | 10:30 am – 12:00 pm

Where: Grand Parade – 1770 Barrington Street, Halifax (directions)

The Royal Canadian Legion Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command will be holding their annual Remembrance Day Service at the Grand Parade, in Halifax NS.

The public are welcome to attend and are encouraged to be onsite by 10:30am.

Annual Remembrance Day Parade and Commemoration Ceremony in Point Pleasant Park

When: Monday, November 11, 2019 | 10:30 am – 12:00 pm

Where: Halifax Memorial (Sailor’s Memorial) in Point Pleasant Park – 5530 Point Pleasant Drive, Halifax (directions)

Every year on November 11th, HMCS Scotian holds a public Remembrance Day ceremony at the Sailor’s memorial in Point Pleasant Park, Halifax, NS, wherein attendees are invited to pay tribute to, and honour the memory of, Canadians who have served their country in times of war.

Throughout the ceremony, a number of wreaths are laid on behalf of prominent organizations with ties to the Atlantic seafaring community. Groups will march from the Point Pleasant Park parking lot to the Halifax Memorial (Sailor’s Memorial).

Remembrance Day Ceremony at Sullivan’s Pond

Remembrance Day at the Korean War Veterans Memorial Garden

When: Monday, November 11, 2019 | 10:30 am – 12:00 pm

Where: Stratford Way Park and Gardens, Halifax (directions)

The ceremony will take place at the Korean War Veterans Memorial Garden, which is on Stratford Way, near Lacewood Dr in Clayton Park.

Sackville Remembrance Day Ceremony and Parade

When: Monday, November 11, 2019 | 10:30 am

Hammonds Plains-Lucasville Remembrance Day Ceremony

When: Monday, November 11, 2019 | 10:45 am

Where: Cenotaph in Uplands Park – 2 Crestfield Drive, Hammonds Plains (directions)

Bedford Remembrance Day Ceremony

When: Monday, November 11, 2019 | 10:45 am

Where: Fish Hatchery Park, Bedford (directions)

Remembrance Day Levee

When: Monday, November 11, 2019 | 11:30 am – 4:00 pm

Where: Unit #349 of the Army Navy Air Force Vets in Canada – 137 Main Street, Dartmouth (directions)

On Nov 11th after the Various Remembrance Day Ceremonies, being held to Honour those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, Unit #349 of the ANAF Vets In Canada located at 137 Main St Dartmouth, will be holding an open door Levee. Sandwiches , sweets, tea and coffee will be provided with a cash Bar as well.

Remembrance Day at Good Robot Brewing Company

When: Monday, November 11, 2019 | 12:00 pm – 11:59 pm

Where: Good Robot Brewing Company – 2736 Robie Street, Halifax (directions)

On November 11th from noon to close, Good Robot will host a special Goodwill Bot for Halifax & Region Military Family Resource Centre. All military, former and current, are welcome to congregate and enjoy their first drink at the lowest legal price available ($2.75). Simply show up in uniform or with valid Canadian Military ID card.

In addition to this, $1 from each Good Robot pint sold on the 11th will go to support Halifax & Region Military Family Resource Centre.

Special access to Naval Museum of Halifax

When: Monday, November 11, 2019 | 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Where: Admiralty House, CFB Halifax – 2729 Gottingen Street, Halifax (directions)

In honour of the importance of the occasion, the Naval Museum of Halifax will be open to the general public for special hours this coming Remembrance Day. The Museum offers space to explore, learn and reflect on the history of the Royal Canadian Navy.

Please enter via the gate located at Gottingen and Almond streets with photo ID.

Remembering the Battle of Passchendaele

When: Monday, November 11, 2019 | 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Where: Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 – 1055 Marginal Road, Halifax (directions)

The Battle of Passchendaele is remembered as a stunning example of Canadian sacrifice, endurance, valour and determination.

This Remembrance Day, the Museum is pleased to welcome Canadian Armed Forces Veteran Bruce Matheson to examine the events of the historic First World War battle with the help of historical diaries and family artifacts.
