10 Things To Do in Halifax This February

X

February in Halifax has a way of holding a little bit of everything. It’s a month for gathering around shared histories during African Heritage Month, tables filled with good food, screens to cheer on Team Canada, and dance floors, workshops, and winter festivals that make the season feel lighter. Between long dinners, snowy adventures, Lunar New Year celebrations, family adventures, and even a bit of prehistoric wonder, February offers plenty of reasons to step out, slow down, and savour what’s happening around the city. Here are 10 of the ways to make the most of the month ahead.

1. Learn about and commemorate the roots, history, family traditions, and narratives of people of African descent during African Heritage Month

February in Nova Scotia marks African Heritage Month, a time to recognize the history, culture, achievements, and contributions of African Nova Scotians and people of African descent across the province.

This year’s African Heritage Month provincial theme is Strength in Unity: Moving Forward with Purpose, Prosperity, Power, and Progress. The theme speaks to the power that comes when African Nova Scotians and people of African descent stand together with a shared sense of direction, recognizing unity as an active force for change that strengthens communities, advances justice, and creates new opportunities.

Be sure to mark your calendars and join the celebrations to honour this legacy in action this month.

If you’re planning a visit here, or even looking to explore the city more intentionally, spending a day supporting Black-owned and Black-led spaces is a meaningful place to start. René Boudreau, founder of Elevate & Explore Black Nova Scotia, has created a curated itinerary that moves at a relaxed pace, inviting you to eat well, learn deeply, and connect with this community that continues to shape the city.

2. Dig deep into Halifax's dynamic dining scene
