North by Northwest Arm Daycation

About This Experience

Paddle the sheltered waters of Halifax's Northwest Arm on this activity-filled afternoon ending with a tasty North End feast!

The Plan

  • Paddle the Northwest Arm for FREE!
  • Stretch your legs with a walk along the Halifax Urban Greenway trail to Point Pleasant Park
  • Grab your favourite comfort food for dinner in the North End

Pick your paddle

Head to St. Mary’s Boat Club on the Northwest Arm for free canoe and paddleboard rentals!

Spend the morning and/or afternoon exploring the waters of the Northwest Arm while you boat-, house-, and people-watch from the water!

Contact the club for rental times, details and reservations.

Fun fact: The Europeans who founded Halifax thought the Northwest Arm was a river, even though the Mi'kmaq name for it - Wāgwoltichk - means "ending without a river coming in."

Stretch your legs

After a long paddle - or a short one - it's nice to get your land-legs back with an easy walk. Head down the shaded trails of the Halifax Urban Greenway towards Point Pleasant Park.

Feast up North

After a long paddle and stroll, it's time to eat! In Halifax’s booming North End you're sure to find something that will tantalize your tired taste buds and quench your thirst. Try one of these North End favourites:

›  Tako Loko - Crazy about tacos? This off-the-beaten-path gem in the North End should be right up your alley. Enjoy their authentic tacos for just $5 each along with a cold bottle of Jarritos!

›  Unchained Kitchen at Chain Yard Cider - Turn up your taste buds with the modern pub menu at this urban cidery. Be sure to sample their eclectic mix of ciders - all made with 100% Nova Scotian apples, never from concentrate!

›  Salvatore's Pizzaiolo Trattoria - Home to what is arguably the most famous pizza crust in Halifax! Try one of their New York-Italian pizzas paired with a glass of Italian wine. Perfetto!

›  Hamachi Kita - Did someone say sushi & sake? Hamachi Kita has a menu full of creative Japanese and Thai dishes, and a gorgeous Hydrostone patio.
