Step inside the Discovery Centre and dive into pure childlike imagination across four floors of hands-on galleries, mind-bending exhibits, and kid-approved science adventures that invite you to poke, play, build, splash, test, question, and explore.
Things to See and Do
From the moment you walk through the doors, the modern and multi-level Discovery Centre will spark your curiosity.
On Level 3, Someday Street is a colourful, kid-sized world designed especially for younger visitors (best for ages eight and under). Plant crops on a mini farm, care for stuffed animals in a pint-sized hospital, or dive into the always-popular bubble room, where playful chaos reigns. This floor is also home to the Bird’s Nest Café, where you can pick up coffee and cold drinks, and a variety of snacks designed to appeal to both kids and parents alike.
Head down the musical stairs (piano notes that play with every step) to Level 2, home to hands-on science in action. Test your reflexes and memory in the Health Gallery, challenge the towering Health-Bot, or explore the Flight Gallery to learn how planes stay airborne. Nearby, the Energy Gallery uses interactive stations to unpack renewable power, circuits, and how energy fuels everyday life.
On Level 1, the Ocean Gallery takes you beneath Nova Scotia’s coastal waters. Discover local marine species, explore underwater ecosystems, and gain a deeper appreciation for the ocean that shapes Halifax’s identity. The Discovery Shop is also on this level.
Finally, Level 0 is all about creativity and novelty. The Innovation Lab invites visitors to tinker, build, code, and experiment. The rotating featured exhibits keep repeat visits fresh with new themes throughout the year.
Before you leave, don’t miss the Dome Theatre. This 65-seat, fully accessible and immersive theatre wraps you in a 4K projection of ocean depths, star clusters, natural wonders, and far-flung galaxies. Choose a Dome Film or a live Star Show and sit back as the universe unfolds around you.
