The art and architecture-driven Queen’s Marque district has become a focal point of the Halifax Waterfront experience since opening in 2021. Whether taking in the ocean-inspired art installations, dining at one of the many restaurants and cafés, tasting locally-made chocolate, or designing your signature scent at Halifax’s only perfume atelier, this district makes for a day’s worth of experiences, if you’re up for it.
Things to See and Do
Queen’s Marque features “Born of this Place” design, meaning the art and architecture are shaped by Nova Scotia. Walk the district and look for signature public art and design features like The Stairs, the Tidal Beacon, The Sirens’ Calling, and The Sail.
This district is home to Halifax’s most luxurious accommodation, the Muir Hotel. Looking for an ultra-relaxing experience? Book a massage at Interlude Spa. To round out the high-end experience Queen’s Marque has to offer, stop by Brilliant Jewellery for custom and fine pieces, Another Shop for women’s sustainable fashion, or the 7 Virtues Perfume Atelier, where you can create and name your own bespoke scent. You can also make a reservation for the tasting menu at Mystic, awarded Canada’s Best New Restaurant and Dish of the Year by Air Canada, as well as North America’s Best New Restaurant by the World Culinary Awards.
Dining options include plenty of local and international flavours: Drift for Atlantic Canadian dishes, Salt + Ash for beachy wood-fired pizza, Bar Sofia for Latin fare, Sapori for Italian street food, Daryâ for Mediterranean-inspired food, Peacock Wine Bar for small plates and excellent by-the-glass choices, Café Lunette for classic French dishes, or ToriDori for a mashup of Asian flavours.
For something sweet, visit The Fog Company for its signature “fog” covered soft serve (presented in a cloud of cotton candy), or try Peace by Chocolate, founded in 2016 in Nova Scotia by the Hadhad family, Syrian chocolatiers who rebuilt their business after fleeing war. Their inspiring story inspired a book, a documentary, and an animated film called Shokolata.

Insider Tip
The 60-foot art installation called Tidal Beacon actually responds to the tides and weather. As the tides change, a light rises and shifts within the structure. At high tide, a beacon of light shines into the sky and out over the harbour. At high tide, a beacon of light shines into the sky and out over the harbour. Check the day’s tide charts to catch this natural light show.
