KANA’TA: Canada Day 2025

Celebrate Mi’kmaq and pan-Indigenous traditions alongside a varied lineup of programming for KANA’TA. With festivities on both sides of Halifax Harbour, there are options for all ages to learn, celebrate, and connect through music, cultural demonstrations, and even a dance battle.

Mawio’mi on the Halifax Waterfront | 12 – 3 pm
The Halifax Waterfront Container Stage will host a welcome and blessing from Elders, Mi’kmaw-inspired music, traditional and contemporary Mi’kmaw dancers, and meaningful celebrations.

Desi Summer Music Fest | 3 – 6 pm
Get moving to global beats with DJ Nish at the Sands at Salter Main Stage—a high-energy set that will keep the vibe going all afternoon.

Atlantic Breaking Alliance Showcase | 4 – 6 pm
Catch the action at Sackville Landing, next to The Wave, for an electrifying all-styles dance battle—featuring bold moves, big energy, and serious talent.

ANSMA Canada Day Concert | 7 – 10 pm

Downtown Halifax Highlights

Royal International Tattoo Canada Day Parade | 10 am
Catch the largest Canada Day parade east of Montreal as it makes its way through Downtown Halifax. The procession starts at the Scotiabank Centre and features over 25 groups and floats, including drumming, bagpipes, and more.

Halifax Citadel National Historic Site | 9 am – 5 pm
Enjoy free admission, witness the iconic noon gun firing and a 21-gun salute, explore the exhibit Fortress Halifax: A City Shaped by Conflict, and enjoy a slice of celebratory cake.

Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 | 9:30 am – 5:30 pm
Take part in a cookie scavenger hunt, hands-on crafts, and engaging exhibitions—all with free admission. Don’t miss the special citizenship ceremony at 10 am, followed by a spirited New Canadian Pep Rally at 11:30 am.

Maritime Museum of the Atlantic | 9:30 am – 4:30 pm
With free admission, immerse yourself in the rich history of the Maritimes. Discover the region’s pivotal role in Canadian history, from the Halifax Explosion to vital World War convoys.

Halifax Commons Family Day | 11 am – 10 pm
Head to the Emera Oval for a full day of family fun, including free swimming, skating, kids’ games, and bouncy castles.

Georges Island | First ferry departs at 10 am every 40 mins | Last ferry at 1:20 pm
Take advantage of free admission on July 1 and explore this remarkable historic site. While ferry tickets are required via Ambassatours, the ride offers stunning waterfront and harbour views—or kayak over if you’re feeling adventurous.

Halifax Wanderers | 4 pm
