1 – The Dairy Bar
Located in the Stillwell Beer Garden, Dairy bar offers up fun, unusual soft serve flavours and a variety of cool treats like ice cream sandwiches, sundaes, and popsicles!
Even better, there’s not an item on their menu that isn’t extra insta-worthy!
Deedee’s started at Peggy’s Cove and has expanded to three locations around the Halifax region.
This family-run business serves homemade, small-batch ice cream and gelato with local, fair trade and organic ingredients.
Deedee’s also makes ice cream cakes, ice cream sandwiches and has a small café at the Cornwallis Street location.
It’s a busy spot, so go early to avoid a line!

How could you not love the sight of a bright blue truck selling frozen treats on a hot summer day? Benny’s combines childhood nostalgia with delicious ice cream confections that borrow elements from traditional Nova Scotian cuisine.
With over 40 flavours available, there’s definitely something for everyone at this cool creamery on wheels!
3 – COWS
You can tell how awesome COWS ice cream is by the line along the Halifax waterfront all summer long!
COWS also makes cute souvenir t-shirts with cows and punny sayings like “Dairy Potter” and “Moocraft”.

Not only does the Scanway Bakery & Café have delicious sandwiches, smoothies and desserts, they also have 13 flavours of gelato ranging from Nutella and Salted Caramel Popcorn to Sweet Basil and Lemon Curd!
They also offer ice cream bars & pops, doughnut + gelato combos, sundaes, sorbet and milkshakes!
5 – Chicken Little
Location: 1531 Bedford Hwy – Bedford-Sackville Region
The Chicken Burger in Bedford is the oldest drive-in diner in Canada and has been a staple in the community for more than 70 years. Chicken Little is an ice cream stand behind The Chicken Burger, surrounded by outdoor picnic benches.
Be sure to peek inside the restaurant for a step back in time and a tune on the jukebox!
6 – Humani-T Cafe
Humani-T’s handmade gelato and sorbetto use natural ingredients that are organic and locally-sourced whenever possible.
For the adventurous palate, innovative flavor combinations include Persian rose, tiramisu, green tea, blueberry lavender and pistachio!
Those with dietary restrictions will be glad to know that sorbetto contains no milk and there is always has one flavour of vegan gelato available. You can also get award-winning Panini sandwiches, baked goods, hot drinks and health supplies in their store.
Location: 1479 Lower Water St – Downtown Halifax
The name says it all. The ice cream is sweet and so is the location on Halifax’s downtown boardwalk.
Choose from a variety of hand-crafted, locally made confections to add to your base ice cream flavour. Then watch staff mix hand-made chocolate bars, fudge or rum cake into the ice cream atop a marble slab!
