Visit Neptune Theatre and let the energy of a live performance sweep you off your feet. Located in the heart of Downtown Halifax’s entertainment district on pedestrian-friendly Argyle Street, the theatre has 458 seats. It is Atlantic Canada’s largest year-round professional theatre and has been a Halifax cultural landmark for more than 60 years.

Things to See and Do

Each season brings a diverse lineup of productions, from large-scale musicals to intimate dramas and laugh-out-loud comedies. Over the years, audiences have flocked to acclaimed productions such as Billy Elliot, The Sound of Music, Calendar Girls, Elf the Musical, The Play That Goes Wrong, and The Rocky Horror Show. Performances are polished, passionate, and thoroughly professional.

The theatre has two venues within the same facility. Fountain Hall, the mainstage, is home to big musicals and ensemble productions, while the Scotiabank Stage offers a more intimate setting for contemporary plays and bold new voices.

Part of the fun of a night at Neptune is how relaxed and social the experience feels. The theatre features bars in both the upstairs and downstairs lobbies, serving wine, beer, cocktails, pop, and light snacks. Arrive early to enjoy a pre-show drink, pre-order something for intermission, and even take your beverage into the theatre as you settle into your seat.

If you’re watching your budget, look for Pay What You Choose performances—usually the first Tuesday of most productions. Tickets are first-come, first-served.

Turn a performance into a complete night out. Arrive early or stay after the show and enjoy a walk along Argyle Street, especially from April 15 to November 15, when the street becomes a lively pedestrian-only zone filled with patios, music, and plenty of pre-show buzz.
