Get a taste of history and local beer on the Alexander Keith’s Brewery Tour in the historic original building, built in 1822.
Things to See and Do
Before the tour begins, take a moment to admire the red brick exterior and browse the souvenir merchandise.
Meet your guide by the stairs, who’ll lead you into the brewery. Here, you’re welcomed with the first of four samples of Alexander Keith’s beer, along with a brief introduction to founder Alexander Keith, including his origins, career, and ventures beyond brewing.
Moving onto the balcony, observe a timeline of bottles and cans from 1820 to today, and see artifacts like Keith’s glasses and pocket watch.
Next on the tour, step into the dining room and then into the brew house, which remains a working brewery. If the timing is right, beer may be brewing as the tour moves through. See the cooker, mash tun, and lauter tun, and watch a presentation on barley malts being ground on site.
The tour concludes in the Staggs Head, the historic pub located in what was once the brewery’s aging cavern. Here, you’re treated to live music, additional beer samples with non-alcoholic options available, and a games room to enjoy at the end of the visit.
