KANA’TA: Canada Day 2026

Celebrate Mi’kmaq and pan-Indigenous traditions alongside a varied lineup of programming for KANA’TA. With festivities on both sides of Halifax Harbour, there are options for all ages to learn, celebrate, and connect through music and cultural demonstrations.

Desi Summer Music Fest | 6 pm – 10 pm
Get moving to global beats with Desi Bollywood, Folk, Middle Eastern rhythms, Hollywood hits, and EDM vibes at the Sands at Salter Main Stage.

ANSMA Canada Day Concert | 6 pm – 10 pm

Dartmouth Ferry Terminal Park comes alive with performances by celebrated African Nova Scotian artists, showcasing a rich tapestry of talent and culture.

Downtown Halifax Highlights

Royal International Tattoo Canada Day Parade | 10 am
Catch the largest Canada Day parade east of Montreal as it makes its way through Downtown Halifax. The procession starts at the Scotiabank Centre and features over 25 groups and floats, including drumming, bagpipes, and more.

Halifax Citadel National Historic Site | All day
Enjoy free admission, witness the iconic noon gun firing, special demonstrations, music, and more. Explore the exhibit Fortress Halifax: A City Shaped by Conflict, and enjoy a slice of celebratory cake.

Georges Island | First ferry departs at 10 am every 40 mins | Last ferry at 1:20 pm
Take advantage of free admission on July 1 and explore this remarkable historic site. While ferry tickets are required via Ambassatours, the ride offers stunning waterfront and harbour views—or kayak over if you’re feeling adventurous

Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 | 8:30 am – 5:30 pm
Take part in a cookie scavenger hunt, hands-on crafts, and engaging exhibitions—all with free admission. Don’t miss the special citizenship ceremony at 10 am, followed by a spirited New Canadian Pep Rally at 11:30 am. Note that 8:30 am to 9:30 am is sensory-friendly hour.

Halifax Commons Family Day | 11 am – 10 pm
Head to the Emera Oval for a full day of family fun, including free swimming, skating, kids’ games, and bouncy castles.

Canada Day Fireworks Cruise | 9:30 pm – 11:30 pm
Looking for a unique way to see the fireworks? Experience them from the water with Ambassatours on the Tall Ship Silva with tunes from DJ Codak. Must be 19+.

Beyond Downtown

ICF Junior & U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships | 8 am – 7 pm
Enjoy food vendors and family-friendly activities on site while watching world-class canoe racing on Lake Banook in Dartmouth.

Bedford Days | 9 am – 11 pm
Start the day with a pancake breakfast, then enjoy live music, a circus play zone, bouncy castles, and a fireworks display at DeWolf Park.

Dominion Day “Old Time” Village Fair | 10 am – 3pm
Step back in time at Memory Lane Heritage Village with free donuts, Dominion Day and Canada Day trivia, traditional relay races, flag-guessing games, and more. Admission is free.

10th Anniversary Canada Day Drumming 2026 | 11 am – 4 pm
Live performances, cultural programming, family-friendly experience, food, and a waterfront market at Dartmouth Ferry Terminal Park.

Canada Day Block Party | 11 am – 4pm
Join Six by the Sea for a seaside celebration with food, music, and games in Peggy’s Cove Village.

Canada Day Mini Pet Expo | 12 pm – 6 pm
Bring your furry friend for a day of fun at Alderney Landing with live animals, local vendors, giveaways, a free pup cup, and a pet photographer on site. Admission is free.
