From food trucks to pop-up shops to seasonal waterfront vendors, we’ve got you covered in terms of finding the city’s best doughnuts!
What’s better than going for a doughnut? Having the doughnut come to you! That’s exactly what you’ll get with the family-run Ol’ School Donuts food truck.
Made fresh in-house with three varieties to choose from (cake, yeast, and “dossants”- their answer to the famous Cronut), Scanway is a must-visit for doughnut lovers in the Halifax region!
Flavours change daily, and when I stopped by, the options included Rum Maple, Caramel Pecan, and Raspberry & White Chocolate. Doughnut-loving daredevils take note: they like playing around with “unique” combos as well, including their recent Dill Pickle doughnut!
3 – Deep Sea Donuts
Since summer 2017, pastry lovers in Halifax have enjoyed their doughnuts with a view!
Deep Sea Donuts is one of the new food vendors to the Halifax Waterfront and is the second waterfront food venture from Dave of Dave’s Lobster.
4 – Manual Co.
The most Insta-worthy doughnut award has to go to Manual Co. The gorgeous creations are available at their pop-up events throughout the city as well as a few times a month at The Dairy Bar on South Park St.
Stay up to date on their pop-up events via their Instagram account.
Patrons of The Doughnut Stand need to be strategic to get their hands on treats from this stand – it is only open once per week from 8am to 1pm (Saturday) at the Alderney Farmer’s Market in Dartmouth.
They have all the classic offerings, such as Boston Cream and apple fritters, but also some super creative combinations, including Cap’n Crunch, jalapeño bacon cheddar, and peanut butter & jelly. Thankfully they are sold individually so you can mix and match to your hearts content!
Need to cool off on a hot day? Grab one of their doughnut ice cream sandwiches – you’ll never have to miss out on your doughnut fix, no matter the weather!
TOA is one of the best new bakeries in town, it’s a great stop for any sweet treat you may be craving. That said, according to locals, their chocolate doughnuts in particular are to die for.
Their menu changes every day so you may have to wait to get your doughnut fix at this sweet little café & bakery, but you can be sure that it will be worth your patience!
One of the great things about doughnuts is that they can be enjoyed at any time of day – breakfast, elevensies, lunch, afternoon tea and so on! So, next time you’re wandering Halifax and find your stomach growling, consider rolling into one of these awesome local bakeries and cafes to pick a doughnut or twelve!
