Top 5 TRIVIA nights in Halifax!

Our brains tend to get a bit lazier in the summer. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but when you’re spending time in Canada’s Ocean Playground, with it’s abundance of beaches, parks and fresh seafood it’s pretty easy to get in relaxation mode. But that doesn’t mean you have to let all of those good brain cells go to waste! Looking for something fun AND mentally stimulating? Well, do we have a suggestion for you – Trivia Night!

A tradition throughout Halifax, primarily on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Trivia Nights give participants the chance to socialize and show off their smarts. Got a knack for pop culture? Spent some time memorizing the periodic table (we won’t ask…)?  Tucked away a bunch of sports knowledge? Here are five trivia nights to check out:

Rock Bottom Brewery

Where: Spring Garden Road
When: Tuesday, starts at 9PM
Are you a lover of house-made craft beer, good food and flexin’ the old brain muscle? Well you’re in luck with Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery. Stop in on Tuesday nights for your chance to win gift certificates – if you’re smart enough you could pay off your meal!

Gus’ Pub
Where: Agricola Street
When: Tuesday, starts at 9PM
Trivia faithful flock to Gus’ with their eyes on the trivia prize. Most also come with their bellies empty and prepared to consume an Ace Burger – routinely rated one of the top burgers in Halifax. With a healthy heap of Pop Culture trivia covered, bring those friends that happen to know the name of the baby brother of Carlton, Hillary and Ashley on the Fresh Prince (it’s Nicholas) and the biggest hit single by Flock of Seagulls (I ran) to help you on the road to success. Doesn’t hurt to have a friend that just kind of knows everything, either. In any case, Gus’ gift certificates are the name of the game – so get ready for some fun!

Freemans Little New York
Where: Quinpool Road
When: Tuesday, starts at 7PM
A popular gathering spot for students and young professionals, Freeman’s trivia nights are not to be missed. Covering content from a wide array of genres, good prizes and solid pub food (try the pizza!) make for a fun night. Best of all, If you’re not interested in having a late night, trivia starts at 7PM, meaning you can get home at a reasonable hour (it is a Tuesday night, after all). PS: there are three Freeman’s locations in Halifax, so make sure you head to the one on QUINPOOL Road – it’s the Original.

Finbar’s – Bedford
Where: Bedford Highway
When: Wednesday, starts at 7:30PM
Looking to get outside the city for some trivia action? Finbar’s is located a quick jaunt down the Bedford highway and features trivia for all levels. Consisting of two rounds of trivia, there are prizes available for the first round, the second round and the overall winners

Rogue’s Roost
Where: Spring Garden Road
When: Wednesday, starts at 9PM
Trivia at Rogue’s Roost is somewhat of a Halifax institution. If you ask anyone in the city where you should go to check out Rogue’s Roost . A popular brew pub, Rogues Roost makes their own beers on premises, while still offering an impressive selection of domestics and imports. Perhaps best of all, trivia night is ‘happy hour’ so you’ll have ample opportunity to whet your whistle. Trivia can get quite competitive at the Roost, but everyone is there for a good time so you’re sure to meet new friends and run into old pals. Plus, the windows overlooking Spring Garden Road make for some exceptional people watching.

Wishing you best of luck on your trivia adventure – unless you’re competing against our team. Then I wish you nothing better than second place.
