Thursday, June 9, 2016 – 10:00 – Susan Brousseau and Kim Campbell have received a Destination Halifax Ambassador Award for their efforts to secure Halifax as the host destination for the Canadian University Boards Association (CUBA) Annual Conference.
“The 2005 conference in Halifax was a great success and CUBA members have talked about it often, looking forward to a return some day,” said Jeff Turner, New Business Development Manager, Sales, Destination Halifax. “Recognizing the conference had not been here for nearly ten years; the fact there was a great desire by CUBA members to return, Susan and Kim decided to organize the 2016 conference. They reached out to colleagues from across Canada and Halifax to assist in the planning process.”
The conference took place at the Prince George Hotel from April 28 to April 30 and attracted over 130 delegates from across Canada. Discussions revolved around shared governance, faculty structures and various case study presentations.
The Canadian University Boards Association exists to improve the governance of Canadian universities. It serves as a means of mobilizing the leadership of university boards to support and develop policies and programs that enhance the ability of boards to discharge their fiduciary duties and to be accountable for the overall direction of their universities.
“We didn’t have to “sell” Halifax as a destination at all; in fact, many of our delegates were excited that our 2016 conference would be here,” said Susan Brousseau. “People see Halifax as an attractive destination for many reasons – it’s location by the sea; the eclectic mix of old and new that can be experienced through the city’s many architectural, historical and cultural venues and events; it’s size and ease of getting around; the excellent food and restaurant options and, certainly, its reputation for friendly people and warm, Maritime hospitality”.
The Ambassador Program is an alliance of individuals and organizations who achieve economic growth for the Halifax region through the promotion of Halifax as a premier meetings and conventions destination. The program has been led by Destination Halifax since 2002.
