Tuesday, July 12, 2016 – 16:45 – Rituparna Kanungo received a Destination Halifax Ambassador Award for her contributions on bringing the 9th international conference on Direct Reactions with Exotic Beams (DREB) to Halifax.
“Determined to host a conference in her field, Ritu bid for the 2016 DREB conference and won,” said Jeff Turner, New Business Development Manager, Sales, Destination Halifax. “Nearly 150 delegates from around the world met in Halifax in July to discuss the latest experimental and theoretical research and developments in nuclear reactions with exotic nuclei.”
This year, DREB 2016 was held in Halifax at Saint Mary’s University and the Lord Nelson Hotel from July 11 to July 15. Topics ranged from experimental and theoretical developments to Nuclear Astrophysics.
“In my view, Halifax is Canada’s welcoming city of friendship. This city is filled with warmth and enormous diversity that is not apparent to the world if they have not set foot here,” said Rituparna. “I felt it was a good time to introduce DREB’s international community to the flavours of Atlantic Canada’s biggest city and the capacity of Saint Mary’s University in international research.”
DREB is one of a number of conferences held on a regular basis by TRIUMF. TRIUMF is one of the world’s leading subatomic physics laboratories.
