Michael Kiefte honoured for contributions to Halifax

Friday, June 17, 2016 – Michael Kiefte has received a Destination Halifax Ambassador Award for his contributions to the 16th International Clinical Phonetics and Linguistics Association conference

“Michael was approached by the Association’s President to consider placing a bid for the 2016 conference. Despite his busy schedule, Michael stepped up to the plate and placed a bid with the assistance of Destination Halifax,” said Jeff Turner, New Business Development Manager, Sales, Destination Halifax. “Halifax won the bid to host in 2016. This will be the first conference in North America since 2004. Michael and the Association President consider Halifax well placed to draw delegates from the USA and Europe.”

The conference took place at Dalhousie University and the Lord Nelson Hotel from June 15 to June 18, 2016, attracting nearly 180 delegates from across North America, Asia, Africa, Australia and Europe. Discussions ranged from “Speech/Cochlear Implants” to “Acquired Language Impairment.”

The ICPLA was formed in 1991. Its aim is to stimulate thought and research in phonetics and linguistics in relation to disordered speech and language. Also, we hope to facilitate interactions and communications between researchers and clinicians.

“Halifax is an ideal destination for international visitors,” said Michael Kiefte. “Its smaller size and warm atmosphere is inviting for people to explore the city on their time off from conference activities. Guests enjoyed a rich dining experience of seafood and maritime hospitality.”

The Ambassador Program is an alliance of individuals and organizations who achieve economic growth for the Halifax region through the promotion of Halifax as a premier meetings and conventions destination. The program has been led by Destination Halifax since 2002.
