Halifax and Nova Scotia’s weather can be summed up with one word: moderate. It is rarely scorching hot or freezing cold, however, we are in Canada, so it still gets chilly of course! Fortunately, when the fresh snow falls and the air gets crisp, Canadians know that it’s time to make the most of the season!
Here are some fun ideas for enjoying all the BEST of winter in Halifax:
1. Get outside
Instead of hiding from the weather, why not get outside and enjoy it? Skating outdoors is exhilarating! There is nothing like the feeling of the wind on your face and your heart beating through your chest. If you are short of skates and equipment, no worries! The Emera Oval on the Halifax Commons offers free rental equipment onsite and it’s open to all ages and abilities.
2. Learn something new
Exercising your brain is a great way to get (and keep) active on cold days. Visit the Discovery Centre and learn about bugs, how the weather works or how to make a giant bubble!
3. Get cozy and competitive
Sometimes sitting inside is the best thing to do in winter, but it doesn’t have to be boring.
Warm up with some tasty beer and snacks by playing a fun game at The Board Room Game Cafe on Barrington Street, or at Press Play Cafe in Lower Sackville. If you’re going to get cozy, you might as well have some company!
4. Make something!
Concentrating on a creative activity is a great stress reliever, and you will feel personal pride that you made something with your hands that you can wear, display or give to a loved one. Plus, you’ll be grateful for that crocheted scarf when you go back outside!
This winter season, don’t hide under a blanket until spring. Get out there and enjoy Halifax!
