Take a unique art-walk through Downtown Dartmouth!
Start your walk: Where Portland Street and Alderney Drive intersect.
Walk up Portland Street: Check out several beautiful murals on the sides of buildings – the newest is a giant vintage postcard at 53 Portland Street.
Take a left at Portland Street & King Street, then a right when you get to Ochterloney Street: You’ll happen upon a giant old-fashioned school desk sculpture, complete with giant eraser. These mark the site of the historic Greenvale School, which hosted the very first kindergarten classroom in Canada.
Walk a few minutes up Ochterloney Street: You can’t miss the outdoor menagerie of zoo animal sculptures “living” on the Vetwise Animal Hospital building. See how many you can spot – on the roof, on the lawn, on the porch! Kids LOVE seeing this unique building with all its animals.
LOCAL TIP: If you’re up for a longer walk, there are lots of colourful urban murals on the waterfront at Dartmouth Cove (pictured below)!
