About This Experience

Take an extremely unique and easy artwalk in Downtown Dartmouth!

Start your walk: Where Portland Street and Alderney Drive intersect

  • Check out several beautiful murals on the sides of buildings – the newest is a giant vintage postcard at 53 Portland Street.
  • Stroll about 5 more minutes to Ochterloney Street and you’ll happen upon a giant old-fashioned school desk sculpture, complete with giant eraser.  These mark the site of the historic Greenvale School, which hosted the very first kindergarten classroom in Canada.
  • A few steps later, you can’t miss the outdoor menagerie of zoo animal sculptures “living” on the Vetwise Animal Hospital building. See how many you can spot – on the roof, on the lawn, on the porch… Kids LOVE seeing this building and all the animals!

LOCAL TIP: If you’re up for a longer walk, there are lots of colourful urban murals on the waterfront at Dartmouth Cove!
