The Route to Canada is a live presentation of the art form of step, spoken work and song highlighting the resilience, creativity, influence of our ancestors in the African Diaspora. This production first premiered in Montreal on April 2nd, 2022. It is set to make its debut in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the Joseph Strug Concert Hall at Dalhousie University on Saturday, February 25th, 2023.
Rooted in the African traditions of storytelling and call and response, the production focuses on Black Canadian History. A combination of powerful and energetic stomps, claps and a vocal ensemble to illustrate the long journey of Black folks to Canada through slavery, the Underground railroad and Migration. It honors the legacy, impacts, contributions and stories of our ancestors who have paved the way for many to stand tall.
