The program brings together texts that speak of the importance of having a safe place to call home. Bringing awareness to the housing crisis in our own province, along with the rising rates of domestic abuse, this concert celebrates the strength and perseverance of women, both at home and abroad, who are running from danger with dreams for a better future.
This beautiful music focuses on hopefulness, expresses words of support and comfort. Songs are accessible for all and deeply heartfelt, featuring music by Canadian female composers Shireen Abu-Khader, Marie-Claire Saindon and Katerina Gimon, Steven Smith, Moira Smiley, The Wailin’ Jennys, Dolly Parton, and even a little Paul Simon.
The choir is happy to welcome a representative from Adsum House, a force in our community for safe housing for women and families. Molly Merriman, singer in the choir and architect from Passive Designs will introduce audiences to Adsum’s wonderful new affordable housing complex, The Sunflower.
