August 1

The Akoma Community Garden is in its 11th year of operation. The garden serves a diverse population of people. Some of the Akoma gardeners hail from countries such as the Congo, Tibet, Syria, Jamacia, Republic of Brunelli, Scotland, England and Portugal. To recognize Emancipation Day, Akoma will host a cultural taste testing where the gardeners will provide foods grown from the garden and cooked in their cultural dish. In addition, there will be a BBQ and African drumming and dancing. Community members are welcome to attend and celebrate emancipation with us.
