5 Unique Fitness Activities in Halifax!

New year, new you? Whether you believe in resolutions or not, taking care of yourself is never a bad idea, at any time of year! That includes exercise. But who wants to do the same workout every day, every week – boring! Why not jumpstart your motivation, and put some fun back into your routine by trying one of these unique fitness activities.

  1. Timber Lounge

If you’re looking for a more AXEciting workout, look no further than this axe-throwing lounge located in Halifax’s North End. What better way to let off steam and firm up those biceps than repeatedly throwing an axe at a target? Coaches are always close at hand to help ensure you are using the proper form and safety, and when you’re done (or during – one does need fuel for such an intense AXEtivity) you can enjoy yummy snacks, craft beer and even live music. Excellent for groups (19+).

  1. Get Air Trampoline Park

Feel like a kid again at this massive indoor playground for all ages. Between the wall-to-wall trampolines, dodge ball, and foam pits your feet will hardly hit the ground at all. The variety of activities will work every muscle, and best of all, there is no talent or special skills required. Bring the kids for Toddler Time Tues/Thurs mornings, or just your adult friends for “Club Get Air” Friday and Saturday 9pm-midnight.

  1. Seven Bays Bouldering

This 6000 sq ft facility is not just a rock climbing gym, it is also a licensed café (I’ve heard their tacos are delicious) and lounge where you can relax after burning those calories. Open early to late most days, this is one activity that’s easy to fit into your schedule, and membership prices are really reasonable. Day passes are less than $15.

  1. Studio in Essence

This fitness studio offers a huge variety of fun and interesting classes, including pole fitness, trapeze, hoops, aerial silks, burlesque, contortion, barre fitness and even acrobatic yoga! Experienced and helpful coaches will push your body to new heights and make you appreciate what it can do much more in the process. You will likely laugh as much as you sweat, so these classes are truly a workout for the body and the soul.

  1. Halifax Circus

Who says working out has to be serious? Pick up a fun party trick and tighten your core through classes in cyr wheel, aerial stunts, juggling, unicycle, and rola bola (balance board), taught by real circus performers. These activities will not only increase your strength but also improve dexterity, reflexes and inspire personal growth through “calculated risk and trust developed through shared experience”.

Try each of these activities over the coming months and you will be sure to stick to your goals!
